Three-Cornered Hat
THREE-CORNERED HAT is short film I wrote and directed starring Luis Saguar and Al Liner. The story is based on a prose poem by Greg Boyd from his book Carnival Aptitude. I made this film shortly after BARBERLAND at a time when digital filmmaking was all the rage but it still had a lot of short comings. Two of the biggest were that it was too contrasty and the skin tones weren't great. But when I tested digital on my actors prior to making this film, the biggest drawback to digital vs film was clear as day -- it didn't suspend disbelief. When I filmed Luis (below) in film, he was a pirate. When I recorded him on digital, he looked like an actor in a pirate costume. Digital has come a long, long way since the making of this film, but there's just something about good ol' 35MM film that helps audiences transcend and transport into story.

The film is 8 minutes. If you'd like to watch it, click here.
